The Guardian Project
Our beloved building at 107 N. 7th Street in Cañon City is in need of repairs. The Guardian Project seeks to raise funds and obtain grants to repair, restore, and preserve our historic church.
As a part of this effort, we applied for AND WERE AWARDED!!! a grant from the Colorado State Historical Preservation Office.
To support the grant, we were required to raise $32,000 in matching funds and we achieved that goal!
Our current goal is to raise $37,000 for roof repair work that must be done alongside the work under the grant, but this work is not covered by the grant from the Colorado State Historical Preservation Office.
Watch this site for photos, videos, and details about our plans for repair and restoration of First Baptist Church of Canon City.
LETTER OF SUPPORT
To: History Colorado Director
From: Sammy Burman
Date: September 27, 2023
It is my understanding that the First Baptist Church of Canon City Colorado has applied for a grant to complete necessary repairs in order to maintain the historical and aesthetic value of this building.
As a current resident born and raised in Canon City, as well as a business owner in the downtown district, I support the need of this Grant.
